At ROSSO Restaurant and Grill children are welcome at every service, from breakfast to dinner. There are high chairs, a baby changing table in the toilets, the kitchen makes smaller portions on request, and the terrace gives families more room. You do not need to book in advance, but it helps to tell us how many children are coming so we can seat you in the right place.
We are a steakhouse: the grill and the open butcher’s counter are in the middle of the dining room, and the menu has no children’s section. There are ways round that for the little ones, and we would rather tell you the limits up front.
What there is for children
There are high chairs, and the changing table is in the toilets. The menus have no children’s section: the kitchen makes children’s portions on request, and you just ask at the table.
The terrace, for those who want to sit outside, has shaded tables and gives families more space. It also features in our guide to eating outdoors in Rome.
The restaurant has no steps, in the dining rooms or on the terrace. One limit we should mention straight away: the toilets are not wheelchair accessible. It is a limitation of the building, not a choice, and we would rather you knew before you come.
What children order
In our kitchen the dishes that work best for children are pizza, burgers and the simpler pasta dishes.
Pizza is the easiest. The Margherita is among the Tradizionali, and every pizza comes on one of three doughs, Tonda Romana, Diversamente Napoletana or Super Fina, left to rise for at least 72 hours. The pizza menu lists the ingredients of each one.
Among the burgers, the Poldino is a plain beef burger, and the Cheeseburger comes with cheddar, lettuce and tomato. For those who do not eat meat there is the Veggie Burger, made with red lentils. Burgers come with chips, and roast potatoes are among the sides.
For pasta, cacio e pepe is made with tonnarelli, Pecorino Romano DOP and black pepper, and the amatriciana with mezze maniche, peeled tomatoes and guanciale. The pasta is rolled in-house every morning. Among the fried starters there is the supplì, the classic Roman rice croquette, ordered by the piece.
Every dish, with ingredients and allergens, is on the dinner menu. If a child would like a simpler version of a dish, ask the staff.
What time to come with children
We are open 365 days a year, including public holidays and August, and the kitchen takes orders until midnight. For a family that means choosing the time that suits you, even in holiday weeks when children’s routines go out of the window.
Breakfast is served from 8am to 11:30am Monday to Friday and from 10am to 11:30am on Saturday and Sunday, Italian or American style. The breakfast menu has a ham and cheese toastie, tomato and mozzarella sandwiches, Greek yoghurt with berries and muesli (or with Nutella, toffee cream and muesli) and hot chocolate. For the adults there is the English Breakfast, with scrambled eggs, bacon and toast, and avocado toast; we have written about the savoury option in our article on American breakfast in Rome.
Lunch is à la carte, so timing and prices are predictable. At that time of day the area is full of offices and parking is harder, so the metro (line B) is the better choice. In the evening parking is easier, because once the offices close the blue and white bays around us free up.
If you want an early dinner with the children, ask when you book what time dinner service starts. At the other end of the evening there is no rush: the kitchen takes orders until midnight.
Drinks for children
The drinks list has five alcohol-free cocktails. The Shirley Temple is ginger ale and grenadine, the Roy Rogers is Coca-Cola, grenadine and fresh lime juice, and the Virgin Mojito is lime, mint, cane sugar and soda. In the morning, the breakfast menu has milk and hot chocolate.
How to book
Book a table from the booking page, with confirmation by email, or on +39 342 189 9629, also on WhatsApp and in English. In the notes, say how many children are coming and whether you need high chairs: it helps us seat you, but it is not compulsory. If you are more than ten, two families with grandparents for example, write to us from the events page.
At the end of the meal the bill can be split however you like, across several cards; just tell the waiter before the bill arrives. We take the main cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Satispay, and contactless works at the table. The cover charge is 2 euro per person.
Children’s allergies and intolerances
Allergens are shown on every dish with the EU codes, in Italian and English, with the key at the bottom of the menu. For a specific question, ask the staff.
There is one rule to know for coeliac children. We have dishes made without gluten-containing ingredients, but there is only one kitchen, and bread, pasta and pizza are made in it every day. We cannot guarantee a dish suitable for coeliacs. If someone in the family is coeliac, tell us when you book and we will tell you what we can do that evening. The policy is explained in our FAQ.
